The trend of modifying old SUVs by fitting them an extra axle for a total of three seems to have really taken off these past few years.
Allow us to introduce you another such vehicle we found lurking on a not so dark corner of the web: a right-hand drive 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML.
Located in Nottingham, UK, the car is for sale on eBay for £19,995 ($25,733/€22,643). That’s slightly more than a new Volkswagen T-Roc, which starts from £19,270 ($24,800/€21,821). But hey, the VW will probably fit in the bed of this unofficial Merc pickup. OK, not really, but you get the point.
Because of the extra axle at the back, you might be tempted to call it a 6×6. Technically, though, it’s a 6×4, because those extra wheels are only there for show purposes and are not driven. Of course, there’s an open bed behind the passenger compartment, and an original AMG kit and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Powering it is a 3.2-liter petrol engine mated to an automatic gearbox. This first-gen ML has 140,000 miles (225,000 km) on the odo, and for an additional cost the vendor can ship it to your door, as long as you live in the United Kingdom.
Despite the conversion, the vehicle is said to have passed the MoT “without problems”, so what it needs right now is to be properly introduced to the road again.
